Almost a week late…shocker, I know ;)
WEIGHT: Little man was born at 7 lbs., 10 oz. He dropped to 7 lbs., 2 oz. when we left the hospital (day 3 of life), but was up to 8 lbs., 11 oz. at his 2 week appointment at 17 days old. Wow, that was more than you ever needed to know, right?! Needless to say, Leo is a bit bigger than our Maxie was at this stage of the game! Our scale shows that he’s currently about 10 lbs. We don’t go back to the pediatrician until Leo is 2 months old in mid-February.
HAIR: Scattered and thin. A little frizzy even? Haha. Not sure what’s going to happen there.
EYES: Steel blue, a little lighter than Max’s were at this age. Max’s turned brown…we’ll see what happens with Leo’s! Mine are brown and Scott’s are green.
CLOTHES: Leo has officially grown out of newborn diapers and some of his newborn clothing, including a good amount of pants. This made me sad…I wasn’t ready! He has a little noggin, though – he swims in most of his hats so far.
EATING: Little man is nursing like a pro…just not yet on a schedule. He usually gives us 3-4 hours between feedings at night and once during the day, which is nice, cluster feeding in the mornings and evenings. So yes, Leo is running the show right now! The last 4 nights, he has only woken us up once after a feeding between 10:30pm and 12:00am at about 3:30am/4:00am. After that, he typically sleeps until between 6:45 and 8:00. I really can’t complain! I’m going to start pumping tomorrow (wahhh!).
SLEEPING: A LOT still, but he’s slowly starting to have more awake time. Leo is awake for the longest block of time in the morning, usually between 9 and 12, and at night between 7 and 10 (during his fussiest time). He is sleeping most often in his swing and rock ‘n play sleeper (in our room).
NICKNAMES: The little one, while Max is the big one (obviously), Leo the Lion (when he’s hangry), Max, by mistake – haha. Not many nicknames going on yet…we’re loving calling him his name–Leo or Leo James!
FUNNY THINGS/MOMENTS: In typical boy fashion, this little one has peed on us many a time. During a bath, though, he almost reached the ceiling – it was out.of.control!
LEO’S LIKES: Being held, rocking, music, his swing, being nursed, being warm, car rides (although he’s only been on a handful!), noise.
LEO’S DISLIKES: Tummy time (although, he’s coming around!), diaper changes, getting buckled in the carseat, bright lights when he’s tired, being cold, cold wipes. Kid would HATE the Northeast ;)
RANDOM: Leo was not a fan of the paci at first, but he’s warmed up to it. This usually helps him to go back to sleep at night. At first, he pretty much always HATES the paci and is offended that you would even present it as an option (like, OFFENDED)…but probably 50% of the time, he gives in. Some days he won’t take it at all and other days, he’s cool with it. Overall, I think he’s decided it ain’t so bad ;)
I’m pretty sure Leo is going to be a belly sleeper. He falls asleep often on his belly during tummy time and loves sleeping on our chests. And I think my nights are sleepless now – ha!
Leo is doing a great job holding up his head. He’s not independent with this task yet, but he is getting very strong.
Scott has been an AMAZING Daddy, per usual. He gets up every time Leo does to change his diaper while I get ready to nurse, he gives me breaks when I need them, and he realizes and acknowledge how hard this job is…and how hard it is going to be on me when he goes back to work next week. Ugh – I don’t even want to think about it.
Leo started smiling with purpose 3 days ago…THE CUTEST! He doesn’t give them away for free – but they’re worth every ridiculous and embarrassing attempt! He seems to think “This Little Piggy…” is funny with the most consistency. Leo has also been caught doing a little belly laugh a few times, usually when he’s sleeping (haha).
Most of the time, I don’t think that Max and Leo look much alike. So strange! I guess I just assumed they’d look the same as babies, for some reason. I do see some resemblance with certain facial expressions and from certain angles; I do feel like they look like brothers. I think Max looks like me and Leo looks like Scott, maybe? Makes me very interested in what Leo will look like when he’s Max’s age!
We ARE in fact going to visit NY this summer. Plane tickets are booked (no driving up this year – Hallelujah!). Time to make some plans, loves! It’ll be a short trip, so text me!
I’m pretty sure Leo already idolizes his big brother, Max. I swear he looks at Max differently than anybody else and it makes my heart swell with pride!
Taken today, 1/20/16.
Overall, Leo has had a GREAT first month. Time seems to be flying already (hello, more than mid-January!). I feel so blessed to have MY BOYS (swoon!) and to feel that this family is complete.
Dreams DO come true! <3
