So there you have it, Northern friends. THAT is a “palmetto beetle/bug” – – or to be more accurate – – a Southern cockroach. I realize this picture is pretty terrible. So, just to clarify, this little jerk was about the length of my middle finger (no coincidence)…but way fatter. Its antennae were extremely long and it had a reddish tint. Ew. He was hanging out by the light in our coat/miscellaneous closet.
Scott knocked that sucker down, never to be seen again. These ugly bugs are surprisingly quick and Batman-like. I swear, it just disappeared! So sly. Please, I beg of you…no repeat of this experience!!!
So Charlestonians, what do you do when you find one of these bad boys in your home? It’s very rare for us (thankfully), but
we Scott usually captures it and brings it outside. It seems like it would make a mess trying to kill them. Am I wrong?
p.s. This isn’t far off from MY reaction when I see a “palmetto beetle.”
